DESCRIPTION:This year’s Berkeley Haas Women in Leadership Conference serves as a celebration of all of the extraordinary women who have shown and led with remarkable resilience in all aspects of their lives – the personal\, the professional and the physical. Through tactical workshops\, story-sharing\, and keynotes from industry-leading professionals\, we’ll celebrate the accomplishments of the women pioneers who came before us\, highlight the many ways that women are leading with resilience today\, and work to build our future as impactful leaders in our own right. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe conference will take place on Saturday\, February 24\, 2024 at the Haas School of Business. DESCRIPTION:Please join Berkeley Haas Women in Leadership Alumnae and UCLA Anderson Women for a panel discussion about how to scale social startups.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nJoin Berkeley Haas Women In Leadership Alumnae (WILA) and UCLA Anderson Women as we host an exciting panel featuring former Berkeley Haas Dean\, Dr. Laura Tyson \, visiting scholar at Berkeley Haas\, Dr. Jennifer Walske\, Beth Foster\, FTMBA 18\, and Ned Tozun\, CEO & co-founder d.light . \nThe panelists will share insights from their recently published book titled “Scaling the Social Enterprise”\, and will highlight how business models\, supply chains\, and media have shifted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Get inspired by real-world examples of how startups such as d.light have overcome their liability of newness through funding\, media\, and building a credible supply chain and distribution channel. \nOur esteemed panelists: \nNed Tozun  \nNed Tozun co-founded d.light in 2007 and serves as the company’s CEO. Ned has been recognized by BusinessWeek\, Forbes\, the Social Venture Network\, the Asia Society\, and the World Economic Forum for his innovative leadership. He and d.light co-founder Sam Goldman were named Social Entrepreneurs of the Year in 2014 by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. d.light has been a pioneer in off-grid solar energy and has impacted over 125 million people through a wide range of affordable solar products. Ned holds his MBA from Stanford university\, as well as dual bachelor of science degrees in computer science and earth systems also from Stanford. \nDr. Laura Tyson \nLaura D’Andrea Tyson is an influential scholar of economics and public policy and an expert on trade and competitiveness who has also served as a presidential adviser. She is a Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School at the Haas School of Business\, University of California\, Berkeley. She also chairs the Board of Trustees at UC Berkeley’s Blum Center for Developing Economies\, which aims to develop solutions to global poverty. She is the former Faculty Director of the Berkeley Haas Institute for Business and Social Impact\, which she launched in 2013. She served as Interim Dean of the Haas School from July to December 2018\, and served previously as dean from 1998 to 2001. \nDr. Jennifer Walske \nJennifer M. Walske is an adjunct assistant professor at UCLA Anderson\, and visiting faculty at Berkeley Haas. Her published research focuses on emergent firms with an emphasis on how human capital\, social capital and strategy aids new firm success. She has received numerous research and teaching awards\, including the best paper award from NYU Stern’s Social Entrepreneurship Conference and the Cheit Award for Teaching Excellence at Berkeley-Haas\, as well as outstanding faculty and research awards at the University of San Francisco. Prior to her career in academia\, Walske was a nationally ranked software analyst by Institutional All-American and was a regular guest commentator on both CNN and CNBC. She also spent 10 years in Silicon Valley\, where she held various marketing and product marketing positions within the software industry\, prior to investment banking. \nElizabeth (Beth) Foster \nBeth Foster (Berkeley Haas MBA ’18) is an early-stage impact investor\, and serves as the Portfolio and Investment Manager at the Autodesk Foundation\, the charitable arm of Autodesk\, Inc. Prior to joining Autodesk Foundation\, Foster was based in Kampala\, Uganda as the Investment Manager for EWB Ventures\, the impact investing arm of Engineers without Borders\, Canada. While attending graduate school at Berkeley Haas\, Foster was a leader of the Haas Impact Investing Initiative\, the Haas Socially Responsible Investment Fund\, and Net impact. Foster began her career as peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda where she developed income-generating initiative alongside cassava farms and coordinated national Gender Development programs. \n  \nThis event is jointly hosted by Berkeley Haas WILA and UCLA Anderson Women.
